Former Cop Holds Daughter, in-laws Hostage in Nueva Ecija

A former police officer who had been dismissed for going AWOL took his six-month-old daughter and two of his in-laws hostage at gunpoint in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija on Thursday.

The suspect was identified as Vincent Jordan Santos, 27, a former patrolman of the Malolos City Police Station in Bulacan. He was living with his partner and their daughter in Barangay Luyos, San Antonio, Nueva Ecija.

According to Cabiao police chief Shariel Paulino, Santos was drunk when he barged into the house of his partner’s parents in Barangay San Roque around 1 a.m. He then threatened to shoot his daughter, his mother-in-law, 52, and his sister-in-law, 11, if his partner did not reconcile with him.

Paulino said Santos had been angry with his partner for breaking up with him and rejecting his pleas to get back together.

The police chief led the negotiations with Santos, who eventually gave up after four hours. He surrendered his 9mm service firearm with 10 bullets.

Santos now faces charges of serious illegal detention, illegal possession of firearms, and violence against women and children.
