WVSU Tops SCUAA Regional Meet 2023

West Visayas State University (WVSU) has been declared as the overall champion of the Regional States Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) meet held in Mandaue City, Cebu from September 11 to 15, 2023.

WVSU garnered a total of 282 medals, consisting of 125 gold, 82 silver, and 75 bronze, in various sports events such as athletics, basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, badminton, swimming, and taekwondo.

WVSU President Dr. Luis Sorolla Jr. congratulated the WVSU athletes and coaches for their outstanding performance and dedication. He also thanked the WVSU community for their support and prayers. “This is a testament of our excellence not only in academics but also in sports. We are proud of you and we celebrate with you,” he said in a statement.

The SCUAA is an association of 93 institutions, conferences, organizations, and individuals that organizes the athletic programs of different state colleges and universities in the Philippines.

The regional meet serves as a qualifying event for the national SCUAA Olympics, which will be held in Manila next year.

The other participating schools in the regional meet were Cebu Normal University (CNU), Cebu Technological University (CTU), Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), Siquijor State College (SSC), Bohol Island State University (BISU), and Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC). CNU placed second with 97 gold, 83 silver, and 72 bronze medals, while CTU came in third with 63 gold, 67 silver, and 86 bronze medals.
