Central Visayas Declares 42 Barangays, 1 Municipality as Drug-Cleared

The Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) 7 announced on August 11, 2023, that 42 barangays and 1 municipality in Central Visayas have been declared as drug-cleared after meeting the criteria set by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).

According to the ROCBDC 7, the drug-cleared barangays and municipality have successfully implemented the Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP), which aims to eradicate the illegal drug problem in the grassroots level.

The BDCP involves the establishment of a Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC), the conduct of drug awareness campaigns, the provision of community-based rehabilitation programs, and the monitoring of drug surrenderers and pushers.

The ROCBDC 7 also said that the drug-cleared barangays and municipality have no reported presence of drug dens, laboratories, marijuana cultivation sites, drug users, pushers, protectors, financiers, or coddlers.

Of the 42 barangays declared as drug-cleared, 25 were from Cebu Province, 11 from Bohol, 3 from Cebu City, and 3 from Mandaue City.

The Municipality of San Remigio, Cebu, also passed the deliberation process and became the eighth municipality in the region to be declared as drug-cleared.

The ROCBDC 7 also verified and retained the drug-free status of Barangay Caohagan, Lapu-Lapu City, which was previously declared as drug-cleared in 2020.

The ROCBDC 7 is composed of representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7, Department of Health (DOH) 7, Philippine National Police (PNP) 7, and local government units (LGUs).

The ROCBDC 7 congratulated the drug-cleared barangays and municipality for their achievement and urged them to sustain their efforts in maintaining a drug-free environment in their communities.
