Nadine Lustre, Noel Trinidad Bag Top Awards in the 71st FAMAS

Nadine Lustre and Noel Trinidad were hailed as the best actress and best actor, respectively, in the 71st Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023.

Lustre won for her role as Kichi, a woman who gets involved in a dangerous scheme of greed and betrayal, in the movie “Greed.” This is her second FAMAS award, after winning in 2019 for “Never Not Love You.”

Trinidad, on the other hand, won for his portrayal of a father who struggles to keep his family together amid a crisis in the film “Family Matters.” This is his first FAMAS award, after being nominated twice before.

“Family Matters” also bagged the best picture award, beating other nominees such as “Blue Room,” “Leonor Will Never Die,” “Reroute,” and “La Traidora.” The film also won best supporting actress for Nikki Valdez and best editing for Beng Bandong.

The best director award went to Ma-an Asuncion-Dagñalan for her psychological thriller “Blue Room,” which also won best cinematography for Neil Daza and best musical score for Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso.

The best supporting actor award was given to Sid Lucero for his role as a troubled cop in the action-drama “Reroute,” which also won best sound for Alizen Andrade and Immanuel Verona.

The best screenplay award was awarded to Abet Raz and Alejandro Ramos for their historical drama “La Traidora,” which tells the story of a Filipina spy during the Japanese occupation.

The best production design award was given to Eero Yves Francisco for his work on “Leonor Will Never Die,” a fantasy film about a woman who defies death.

The best short film award was given to “Golden Bells” by Kurt Soberano, a documentary about the bells of Balangiga that were returned to the Philippines after more than a century.

The FAMAS also honored veteran actors and personalities with special awards. Sen. Lito Lapid received the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award for his contribution to the Philippine cinema.

Liza Lorena received the Susan Roces Celebrity Award for her exemplary performance in various films and television shows. Jun Urbano received the Dr. Jose R. Perez Memorial Award for his dedication to the entertainment industry. Marita Zobel received the FAMAS Lifetime Achievement Award for her illustrious career spanning six decades.

The FAMAS also recognized young talents with the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award, which was given to Jillian Ward for her outstanding work in television and movies.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez received the FAMAS Exemplary Award in Public Service for his leadership and advocacy.

The FAMAS awards ceremony was hosted by Mon Confiado and Nadine Lustre, who were also named as the Face of the Night (Male) and Face of the Night (Female), respectively. The Male Star of the Night was Sid Lucero, while the Female Star of the Night was Jillian Ward.

The FAMAS is one of the oldest and most prestigious award-giving bodies in the Philippines. It aims to honor excellence and promote quality in Philippine cinema.
