Cebuano Pool Player Rises in Germany Tilt

Anthony Raga, a pool player from Cebu City, Philippines, is one step away from making history as he reached the semifinal round of the European Pool Championships in Fuda, Germany.

Raga, 26, defeated Canada’s John Mora and Poland’s Wojciech Szewczyk in the quarterfinals on Saturday, August 12. He won both matches with a score of 10-6 and 10-7, respectively.

Raga will face German Joshua Filler in the semifinals on Sunday, August 13. Filler is the 2018 world 9-Ball champion and one of the top-ranked players in the world. The other semifinal match will be between American Van Boening, the 2022 world 9-Ball champion, and Spanish David Alcaide, the 2017 World Pool Masters champion.

Raga is the only Asian player left in the tournament, which features some of the best cue artists from Europe and North America. He has shown remarkable performance throughout the event, including a stunning 10-0 whitewash over former world 9-Ball and 10-Ball champion Ko Pin-yi of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16.

Raga is aiming to become the first Filipino player to win the European Pool Championships, which is considered one of the most prestigious and challenging tournaments in the world. He is also hoping to follow the footsteps of his fellow Cebuano cue masters Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante, who have won multiple world titles and international accolades.
