Alex Eala Clinches Fourth ITF Crown in Roehampton

Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala added another feather to her cap when she captured her fourth ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour title at the W25 Roehampton in Great Britain on Sunday, August 13.

Eala, who is ranked 250th in the world, overcame a tough challenge from second seed and WTA World No. 166 Arina Rodionova of Australia, 6-2, 6-3, in the final match that lasted for almost two hours at the National Tennis Centre.

The 18-year-old Eala showed her composure and resilience as she fended off Rodionova’s comeback attempts in the second set. Eala broke Rodionova’s serve twice in the first set and once in the second set to seal the victory.

Eala, who is supported by Globe Telecom and the Rafa Nadal Academy, earned 50 WTA ranking points and $3,000 in prize money for her triumph.

This was Eala’s second ITF title this year, following her win at the W25 Yecla in Spain last June. She also won two ITF titles last year: the W25 Chiang Rai in Thailand and the W15 Manacor in Mallorca, Spain.

Eala was ecstatic to share her latest achievement with her family, who were present at the venue. She also dedicated the win to her parents, who will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Monday.

“ITF Pro Title #4!! Just in time for my parent’s 25th Anniversary tomorrow! Love you mom and dad,” Eala wrote on her Facebook page.

Eala is expected to climb up the WTA rankings after her impressive performance in Roehampton. She will also continue to compete in more ITF tournaments in Europe as part of her preparation for bigger events.
