Passenger Bound for Siargao Nabbed for Marijuana at MCIA

A 25-year-old virtual assistant was arrested at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) on Tuesday, August 10, after he was found to be carrying hand-rolled marijuana in his luggage.

The suspect, identified as RJ Bryan Baldove Tres Reyes, a resident of Barangay Sanito, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, was bound for Siargao from Zamboanga via Cebu when he was intercepted by the authorities at the pre-departure area of Terminal 1.

According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Airport Interdiction Unit, they conducted a profiling and visibility operation around 12 noon in coordination with the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) DOTR Mactan Station and the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Unit 7 (PNP-AVSEU 7).

During the operation, they discovered that Tres Reyes had 14 pieces of hand-rolled white paper containing suspected dried marijuana leaves in his backpack.

The seized items weighed around 0.28 grams and had an estimated market value of P560.

Tres Reyes was brought to the PDEA Regional Office 7 for proper disposition and documentation.

He will face charges for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) of Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
